Control car via Alexa: cult brand brings Amazon service to the passenger seat
Alexa becomes the digital passenger in Jaguar and Land Rover. As the carmaker explains, Amazon’s assistant can be used to control music, navigation and telephone calls, among other things. Even smart household appliances at home can be managed via Alexa.
Alexa: voice control for Jaguar and Land Rover
Jaguar, the manufacturer of the Land Rover brand, has announced that Amazon’s Alexa is now available as a digital passenger . The assistant can be found “in all new and all existing models” from Jaguar and Land Rover, it says. However, the prerequisite is the infotainment system Pivi Pro, which according to the manufacturer can already be found in 200,000 cars. A corresponding update is currently being distributed over the air.
The biggest advantage of Jaguar is that you can keep your hands on the steering wheel while driving . Instead, Alexa is instructed to take care of the music or handle the navigation. In addition, Alexa can also be used in combination with a smartphone for phone calls and to manage the appointment calendar. News and weather forecasts can also be read out by the assistant in the car.
Possible Alexa commands include:
- Alexa, drive me home
- Alexa, show me nearby restaurants
- Alexa, play my chill out list
Even without an accompanying smartphone, Alexa should be able to take care of controlling intelligent household appliances in the Jaguar or Land Rover (source: press release). The respective device must of course be able to communicate with Alexa.
